Australian Sewing Guild Inc.
2008 National Convention Queensland

Queensland, in spring, is the perfect setting for a fabulous week of relaxation, learning, sewing and fun, so join like-minded sewing enthusiasts as the Australian Sewing Guild Inc. presents the 7th National Convention and 5th National Fashion Awards from Sunday 28th September to Saturday 4th October 2008

The Convention and Fashion Awards for 2008 will be held at Marist College, Brisbane. The College is located in suburban Ashgrove, seven kilometers from the centre of Brisbane. It is leafy and expansive, with buildings and facilities nestled amongst acres of bushland.

A busy week is planned with marvelous tutors from Queensland and New South Wales coming together to share innovative techniques, must-know basics and experimental, fun topics that cater to beginner, intermediate and advanced seamsters.

There will be a large, varied selection of Workshop topics covering Overlocking, Scrumbling, Time Saving Sewing, Quality Finishing, Perfect Fit, Fabric Manipulation, Fussy Cutting, Drafting, Funky Felting, Layer/Stitch/Burn/Paint/Create and much more.

Helping you to expand, explore and achieve these techniques will be some of Australia’s’ foremost tutors. Names such as: Kirry Toose, Alison Wheeler, Louise Sparrow, Vicki Taggart, Rhona Feeney, Ana Fataccioli, Julie Davie, Ruth Osborne, Wendy McKinnon and Helen Stumkat.

But the week is not all work and no play. The varied social activities, guest speakers, fashion parades and sight-seeing tours turn this week into a custom made holiday package for all seamsters. Every night will feature activities designed to get people together and have fun and will centre around a great dinner or a casual BBQ and a varied entertainment program.

To relax, socialise with like-minded new friends and enjoy some of the beauty of Queensland there will be a bus tour, to the fabulous Sunshine Coast, visiting the famous Eumundi Markets, Noosa River and Hinterland and the infamous Kerryns Fabric World at Maroochydore. You will undoubtedly arrive back at the college with lots of goodies and batteries recharged.

On Thursday night, the 2nd of October, The National Fashion Awards (previously the Hunter Valley Harvest National Fashion Awards) will be presented, with many wonderful Industry sponsors and sensational, creative garments. This will be a first for the ASG National Convention and the organisers are looking forward to entries from all over Australia and New Zealand.

If this sounds like the week for you then don’t waste another moment. Contact the Australian Sewing Guild for the full Convention program, costs and details ASAP.
