MY LABEL Testimonial
by Shelly Mackay Hi, my name is Shelly Mackay from Shepparton Sewing Centre in central Victoria and I have been selling sewing machine since 1994. Where shall I start? I have sewn for so many years and like so many others, I have done the ‘buy the pattern, fabric and notions, cut out and make up the garment scenario’, only to have the fit not quite right or the fabric not right for the style. Even worse, half make it and realise the style doesn't suit my body, only to throw it in the cupboard (with the thought I will remake it into something else soon and throw it out years later). Frustrating! But today I am the very proud owner of the new Bernina MY LABEL 3D Pattern Fashion Software and life as I knew it has changed forever. Let me begin by thanking Bernina for bringing such a wonderful product to Australia. As a retailer and fashion sewer, first and foremost, I love this software. Being in retail, and having friends that sew, my story is not unusual, actually it's quite common. Over the years, I have been enticed by cheap imports of ready-made clothing and succumbed to the lure of the fashion. All very good and well if you are the "standard" shape and the garment fits. I have come home from, I don't know how many shopping trips, depressed by the fact that there were plenty of beautiful clothes out there but the fit was far from acceptable. In June 2004 we opened a fabric store under the ‘Bargain Box Fabrics’ banner, in a separate location to our sewing machine store, with the intent to merge the two shops. Great! What a dream come true for any woman that sews. I initially thought that I would make all the fabric display garments in my size according to standard commercial patterns and when the displays were finished I would get an additions to my wardrobe. Unfortunately they didn't ever fit, but we needed the displays anyway, so I just kept sewing. Four years on, when we finally relocated our two shops into one 550 square metre specialist sewing store, I had made dozens of display garments and all I have to show is one T-shirt that fits properly. BUT NOT ANYMORE.......... I have been re-invigorated by MY LABEL. The displays in the shop are now all made from patterns designed on MY LABEL, specifically FOR ME. They ALL fit and I can't wait to make more MY LABEL display samples so that my wardrobe will get even bigger. I'm also getting really good at a quick change; showing customers the different garments I have made and how well they fit. The fact that you can see a 3D view of your body with the selected design on YOUR body also makes a huge difference to the design success. One of my favourite things relates to the fact that I have chubby knees. Now I can see the finished length, of each design, and if it is too close to the knee I can alter the length before I print the pattern. Having recently lost some weight I am used to still wearing things a little looser than most people, so, if the style is close fitting, I can alter that on screen as well before I print off. Also having a short waist and a sway back, made getting pants to fit properly a problem and in the past I just gave up. So pants were the first garment I designed using MY LABEL software and the fit is fantastic. This program is brilliant. Why anyone would spend money on a standard dressmakers dummy, when you can buy this program and get the perfect fit, is beyond me, because this program will print individual patterns to your individual measurements. I am so excited about this pattern making software program that I could go on and on and it has so many other great features I haven't even mentioned. We have run five very successful presentations of MY LABEL since its release, earlier this year, and I have more scheduled in Shepparton and Albury.
