GREAT NEWS - Quilt Shops “In Fashion”

Pati Palmer (American fashion sewing guru) in noticing many quilt shops were adding a fashion section to their regular quilting range felt it good timing to do some patterns for McCall’s that featured quilt cottons. That way, even if a store wants to carry only quilt cottons, they can market to fashion sewers.

The first pattern released, early this summer, was McCall’s 5432. The vest is easy to sew with a band collar, bias-faced armholes and front band. “Quilters are used to binding quilts, so why not clothes?”  says Palmer.

Adding sleeves to the vest armhole creates a unique jacket with turned back cuffs that marries perfectly with the long or cropped pant which are also wonderful in cotton prints or stripes. The tube top is designed for cotton knits and they are all easy- to-sew and easy-to-wear.

The newest design in the quilt cotton collection, is McCall’s 5558, another fabulous vest and jacket, that is perfect for a long hot summer or the cooler mid-season to come.

Think of choosing from all those gorgeous, colourful, high quality, 100% cotton, mix n’ match ranges for all these pieces. The patterns are available where McCall’s patterns are sold or on the Palmer/Pletsch or McCall’s Web sites.

Baby Blocks Quilt

A machine pieced quick and easy strip cut method with no set in corners makes this a great quilt for a new baby or looks good in bold fabrics as a wallhanging for any age. To create the illusion of three dimentional boxes it is necessary to have light, medium and dark fabrics. Be sure to have a very definite contrast between these fabrics.
