The next issue of Sew Inspirational – FEBRUARY 2008

Just a little of what you can expect next issue –

FASHION FELTING
Felting is an age-old traditional handicraft technique that’s now so much easier with the help of your sewing machine. Simply replace your presser foot and needle with a needle punching tool. The punching tool’s eyeless, barbed needles pierce through your selection of decorative fibres to meld and secure them into your base fabric. You can felt with yarns, embroidery or knitting wools, mixed fibres, chenilles or polyesters onto an endless selection of  materials. The yarn is worked into the base fabric, thereby creating – with the sewing machine, but without sewing – a new fabric: felt. What could be simpler, more decorative, more original or more creative?

TRIBAL DECORATING
There is no quicker, easier or more economical way to redecorate your personal space than with a scattering of new cushions. Next issue we’ll walk you through the steps to make this striking tribal cushion.

Easily achieved textures and patterns on basic home-spun cotton panels give a worldly travelled, ethnic influence, without the jet-lag!

SCARVES – THE UNSUNG HEROS
Scarves, shawls and pashminas – they abound in every colour, fibre, texture and weave and in every shape and size. But if you don’t know what to do with them or how to carry off the look, then just pop into our space, next issue, for ALL there is to know on the subject of the ‘Great Coverup’.

BABY BLOCKS QUILT
By acclaimed South Australian Quilter, Lessa Siegele

A machine pieced, quick and easy, strip cut method with no set-in corners, makes this a great quilt for a new baby or looks good in bold fabrics as a wallhanging for any age. To create the illusion of three dimensional boxes it is necessary to have light, medium and dark fabrics with a very definite contrast between them and a fabulous 100cm x 115cm quilt can be created quickly. The perfect quilt for those with little time, fabric or experience.
